Behind the Scenes with ASPIRE

Behind the Scenes with ASPIRE is a bimonthly panel-style event that provides the opportunity for the Asian community and the ASPIRE team to get to know each other. It serves as a safe space to navigate experiences, stories, and perspectives on a wide range of topics–all of which connect back to the Asian narrative. In our latest Behind the Scenes with ASPIRE event, we met two of our board members, Sydney Braithwaite and Isabel Wu.

WGBH's 2018 Celebration of Asian Pacific American Culture

June 1, 2018

On May 22, WGBH celebrated APAHM by hosting a speaker panel for 3 Asian Americans in executive leadership positions to share their experience and advice. It was an amazing night to have been a part of: listening to their stories, feeling reinvigorated by their success over challenges and food by Chicken & Rice Guys!

ASPIRE especially resonated with Yvonne Hao's experience of being in a class or at work where she was the only woman, person of color, youngest, or even all three! We know exactly what she meant by those "household values" of being humble, modest, and working hard, and find it so admirable that she found a balance in advocating for herself while also holding onto her values.

Everyone on stage mentioned the support they received, from teammates, mentors, parents, to teachers that believed in them, and acknowledged their help in achieving where they are today. Everyone is on a journey, and we all need support to get to a good place too. This is why we are excited for our Mentorship Program to launch this year!
